Health Ministry Kicks Off Mid‑Year Review of NDC Manifesto Health Promises in Ho
The Ministry of Health initiated a three-day mid-year review in Ho, Volta Region, to evaluate progress on the key healthcare promises outlined in the NDC’s 2024 Manifesto.
Led by Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the exercise brings together Ministry directors, heads of agencies, board chairs, and chief executive officers from health institutions across the country to assess implementation, address challenges, and accelerate progress.
Key Initiatives Under Review
- Free Primary Healthcare: Evaluating steps to ensure broad access to basic healthcare services nationwide.
MahamaCare (Ghana Medical Trust Fund): Progress updates on establishing funding mechanisms for catastrophic and specialized illnesses.

Infrastructure & Facility Retooling: Assessing the construction of regional hospitals in the six newly created regions, establishing cataract centers, retooling health facilities, and finishing previously abandoned health projects.
Workforce & Welfare: Formalization of allowances for nursing trainees, introduction of specialized nursing programs, and ongoing recruitment of healthcare professionals.
NHIS Expansion: Enhancing the reach and coverage of the National Health Insurance Scheme.
Financial Governance Focus

Alongside performance evaluations, the retreat includes training on the Public Financial Management (PFM) Act. Minister Akandoh urged board chairs and agency leaders to practice strict financial discipline, avoid day-to-day administrative interference, and ensure transparent, accountable management of public health resources.
