Carlos Queiroz: New Black Stars coach to address media in Accra ahead of World Cup campaign
Newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz is set to address the media in Accra on Thursday, April 23, in his first official engagement since taking charge of Ghana’s senior national team.
The press conference, scheduled for 1:00pm at the Alisa Hotel, is expected to provide the first detailed insight into the Portuguese trainer’s plans for the team as preparations intensify towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The event will bring together journalists, football stakeholders and officials of the Ghana Football Association, offering an opportunity for direct engagement with the coach following his appointment last week.
Queiroz is expected to outline his technical philosophy, share his vision for the Black Stars and respond to questions on squad direction, team structure and expectations ahead of the global tournament to be hosted across Canada, Mexico and the United States.
The briefing will also serve as his formal introduction to the Ghanaian public, as the new technical team seeks to build alignment with supporters and the media ahead of what is widely seen as a defining period for the national side.
Ghana will be making its fifth appearance at the World Cup and has been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia, setting up a competitive group stage campaign.
In his first message after being confirmed in the role, Queiroz struck a tone of humility and determination, describing his appointment as a national responsibility rather than a routine managerial job.
“It is with a deep sense of gratitude to GFA, responsibility and humility that I embrace this new chapter with the National Football Team of Ghana,” he said.
Drawing on decades of international coaching experience, the former Real Madrid manager emphasised that his approach would be anchored on discipline, unity and a deep respect for Ghana’s football heritage.
“Football has given me a lifetime of challenges, lessons, and unforgettable journeys, all over the world. Today, I accept this mission with the same passion and commitment that have guided me throughout my career,” he stated.
He highlighted the need for collective effort in restoring consistency and competitiveness to the team, expressing confidence in the country’s talent base.
“Ghana is a nation of talent, pride, and footballing soul. I arrive with respect for its history and belief in its future,” he said.
Queiroz further stressed that teamwork would be central to achieving success on the international stage.
“Together, with unity, discipline, and ambition, we will work to honour the expectations of a great football nation,” he added.
Framing his appointment as a duty to both the sport and the country, he made clear his personal commitment to the task ahead.
“This is not just another job — it is a mission. And I am ready to give everything of my experience and knowledge once again, in service of the game and the happiness of people.”
His upcoming engagement with the media is expected to set the tone for Ghana’s World Cup preparations, as the Black Stars seek to rebuild momentum and reassert their presence on the global football stage.
