Demeter Ghana Limited has stepped up efforts to support smallholder farmers by embarking on an engagement tour across the Western South, Western North, and Central Regions, focusing on strengthening sustainable farming practices and improving soil health.
The visits provided an opportunity for the company to interact directly with farmers, hear their experiences with Calciprill—Demeter’s flagship soil amendment product—and gain insight into the challenges farmers face in sustaining productivity.
For the past six years, Demeter Ghana has partnered with institutions such as COCOBOD to make Calciprill more accessible to farmers. The product is widely used to address soil acidity, which remains one of the biggest constraints to crop productivity in Ghana.

Speaking during the tour, William Hunt, Country Manager of Demeter Ghana Limited, said the initiative reflects the company’s belief that long-term solutions to agricultural challenges must come from working directly with farmers. “Our priority in this tour is to directly engage with farmers in their communities, to ensure that they receive the best of products, training and support needed to improve soil health and sustainable farming,” he explained.
He added: “The essence of this tour also is to assess Calciprill’s impact to the farmers using it.”
Farmers who participated in the sessions shared positive feedback on how the product has improved soil quality and boosted yields. However, they also raised concerns about its availability and the need for more education on proper application techniques. Broader challenges such as access to inputs and training also surfaced, underscoring the importance of sustained farmer education, demonstration projects, and stronger distribution systems.
In response, Demeter Ghana has pledged to expand its training and awareness campaigns on soil management and the correct use of Calciprill. The company also intends to deepen collaboration with distributors and partners to ensure the product is readily available to smallholder farmers across the country.
Demeter Ghana says its long-term vision is to provide practical farming solutions that not only improve yields but also enhance livelihoods and deliver sustainable returns for farmers and their communities.
