The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) celebrated its 60th Anniversary with the theme “A Legacy of Service.” The event featured an inspiring message from Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff of the Republic of Ghana, who served as the Chairman of the occasion.

At a ceremony attended by notable figures like Her Excellency Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the Vice President, along with representatives from organized labour, the judiciary, and the pension sector, the Chief of Staff delivered an inspiring call to action, particularly aimed at Ghana’s youth.

“Social Security is not just about pensions,” Hon. Julius Debrah emphasized. “It is a promise. A promise that your hard work today will not be forgotten tomorrow.”

Over the past six decades, SSNIT has transformed from a humble organization into a cornerstone of social protection in Ghana—offering income security, uplifting pensioners’ dignity, and maintaining public confidence in retirement planning.

Prof Jane Naana Opoku- Agyemang also addressed the gathering.

The Chief of Staff encouraged young people to look beyond their paycheck and take charge of their social security journey. He emphasized, “You don’t plan for the future when you’re older; you start preparing for it while you’re young.”

He praised SSNIT’s use of digital platforms to enhance service delivery and transparency, urging ongoing reforms, innovation, and with national development goals.

The event wrapped up with Mr. Debrah expressing heartfelt gratitude to all stakeholders: “This milestone should inspire us to enhance our culture of service and boost public trust in our social security system.”

As Ghana marks 60 years of social protection, the message is simple—embracing youth inclusion, driving policy innovation, and building trust in the system are key to shaping the future of national development.
