Police arrest two suspects for illegal possession and discharge of firearms at funeral

Following the March 14, 2025, incident at Attakrom near Bibiani in the Western North Region, where some individuals in possession of firearms, including a pistol and shotguns, openly discharged them at a funeral, the police have arrested two suspects.

The suspects were arrested on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, a police statement has said.

The incident was captured on video with the individuals assembling themselves at the funeral and discharging their firearms.

The video [attached] was shared on social media.

Following the investigations, the police said the individuals were illegally possessing the firearms.

In a press statement issued on Thursday (April 4, 2025), the police named the two suspects as 41-year-old Frank Afoko and 31-year-old Kojo Agyapong.

They are said to have admitted to being the individuals featured in the video footage during interrogation by the Regional Investigation Team led by the Crime Officer, according to the police statement.

Both suspects have since been detained to assist with further investigations while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals involved in the incident who remain at large.

ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR UNLAWFUL POSSESSION AND DISCHARGE OF FIREARMS

  1. The Western North Regional Police Command wishes to inform the public of the arrest of two suspects in connection with the illegal possession and discharge of firearms during a funeral celebration.
  2. On April 2, 2025, at about 1400 hours, the Western North Police Intelligence Department, with support from personnel of the Formed Police Unit, successfully apprehended suspects Frank Afoko, aged 41, and Kojo Agyapong, aged 31.
    The arrests were made following investigations into an incident on March 14, 2025, at Attakrom, near Bibiani, where individuals were captured in a video which went viral on various social media platforms.
    The suspects together with others now at large were seen openly discharging firearms without lawful authority during a funeral event.
  3. The suspects were interrogated by the Regional Investigation Team led by the Crime Officer, and they admitted to being the individuals featured in the video footage.
    Both suspects have since been detained to assist with further investigations. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals involved in the incident who remain at large.
  4. The Western North Regional Police Command reiterates its commitment to ensuring safety and security in the region. The Command urges the public to report any information that could assist in the arrest of the remaining suspects.
